Cook what you like
Cooking is not difficult, though there may be challenges. This is true of most things we learn in life. You can do this and it can be as simple or complex as you want. When
you set out on this journey, keep it simple and, as you
gain confidence and skills, continue to challenge yourself. It may take
some
time and practice, but as you continue you will feel a sense of
achievement and be rewarded with enjoying the foods you love when you
want them.
Make it Fun
Cooking should be fun and making what you enjoy eating will
inspire you. Start with your favorite, simple dishes such as a burger or pasta.
With a bit of shopping and some work in the kitchen you can enjoy the food
you love at home.
How do you do this?
The
first step may not be necessary and is somewhat obvious: use your
favorite search engine to find what is available on the internet. You
will be amazed how many hits you get. I have been able to specify a dish
and the restaurant and found good copycat recipes.
You
can also ask to speak with the chef at the restaurant about the dish,
especially if it is one that you frequent. You may or may not get past
the staff, but they may give you some ideas. If they do let you speak to
the chef, they probably won’t give you the recipe, but they may give
you some hints and tips.
Another source is from
a good butcher. Most of us are unaware that many butchers are also
talented cooks. They may have some surprising insights and possibly have
the recipe you are looking for or know where you can find it. They may
also share their own recipes for the cut of meat that is the star of the
dish you are asking about.
Once you have a
recipe in hand and are reviewing it you may find you are missing items
in your kitchen ranging ingredients the recipe calls for to utensils for
preparation. I will discuss that in the next post. In the meanwhile, I hope
this helps you discover a great, new outlet for your creativity and
good luck finding the recipe you for your first conquest!
